Arches National Park
Arches National Park preserves over two thousand natural sandstone arches and a variety of unique geological resources and formations. In some areas, faults expose millions of years of geologic history. The spectacular features of the park include balanced rocks, windows, fins, pinnacles, and arches, including the famous Delicate Arch. The entrance to Arches lies 5 miles north of Moab. In the park, you can see many features from your vehicle.

Canyonlands National Park
Carved out of vast sedimentary rock deposits, this land of canyons, mesas, and river gorges boasts remarkable natural features. Its vast panoramic views rival those of the Grand Canyon. The Colorado and Green Rivers meet in the middle of Canyonlands, splitting the park into three distinct areas. Numerous Moab businesses provide day trips to Canyonlands, including the famous Newspaper Rock and other petroglyph sites.

Dead Horse Point
Dead Horse Point is a State Park, located north of Moab. The is managed by the Utah Division of Parks & Recreation and is open year round. With an altitude of about 6000 feet, this arid high chaparral environment has cool evenings, even in the summer. The overlook on the peninsula stands 2000 feet above the Colorado River. The park has a visitor center, several hiking trails, and marvelous scenery, including the LaSal Mountains to the southeast.

Highway 128
Known as the River Road, this state highway starts just south of the Colorado River and follows the river for miles, through some of the most beautiful land around. The highway eventually takes the traveler to Cisco, Utah, and meets with Interstate 70. The drive up highway 128 offers more rich panoramic views, including the often-photographed Fisher Towers rock spires.

Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge and Film Museum
The Moab area, familiar to many because of movies such as Rio Grande and The Comancheros, represents the Western vision. Recent movies include Thelma & Louise and Geronimo. The history of Hollywood's love affiar with the region is captured in a single museum located on the ranch where some of these films were made.
During our Western Stars weekend, the Red Cliffs Museum of Film and Western Heritage will be available for free tours and movies. Lectures will be presented by people associated with the Moab-to-Monument-Valley Film Commission, the oldest U.S. film commission. The Red Cliffs Ranch is located on highway 128.

Visiting the Moab Area
Moab is home to two outstanding National Parks and a spectacular State Park, all within 30 miles. Originally, this area was settled by ranchers, farmers and prospectors. Now the area is better known for its adventure opportunities - biking, hiking, 4WD exploring, rock climbing, and river-running. The area around Moab offers breath-taking vistas with contrasts of red rocks, blue mountains, red mesas, and white snow-capped peaks, offering beautiful views in all seasons.
